TQS 6: Adhering to Legal Frameworks and Policies

The teaching profession requires one constantly to maintain an awareness of the laws and policies inherent in any education system. Engaging in practices consistent with policies and procedures established by the school authority is key, but further, taking the time to understand the protections for and responsibilities of teachers, parents, and children is necessary to act in an effective role.

Being in loco parentis means that as a teacher, I am expected to act as a caring, knowledgeable and reasonable adult entrusted with the custody. To ensure that all learners within my sphere are safe and treated with the intent of the parents who have entrusted us with their children.

The policies and legislation in place ensure that I, as a teacher, am competent and attentive within my field. Moreover, the professional practice of a teacher is bound by standards that extend past the school's walls and into daily life.
