TQS 1: Fostering Effective Relationships

As a teacher and artist, I strive consistently to make stuff and be kind. The world can be complicated, and every day, we engage without knowing what other people are going through. As such, acting consistently with fairness, respect, and integrity is paramount when stepping into the classroom and in any situation. Demonstrating empathy and a genuine caring for others gives students the safety they need to belong.

Honouring cultural diversity and promoting intercultural understanding are also fundamental. I am still striving to become effective as a teacher. However, I am keen to learn at all times and maintain a strong will to uphold the needs of others.

I aim to provide culturally appropriate and meaningful opportunities for students and for parents/guardians, as partners in education, to support student learning and also for my peers. Whether teaching about coffee or tapirs, school culture is built in the little moments that aren’t always in the curriculum.
